Tunisian Arabic

Tunisian Arabic, known as Darija, is the colloquial Arabic spoken in homes and on the streets of Tunisia. What could be more enjoyable than discovering the country and having the opportunity to learn its dialect and experience the culture at the same time? Taa Marbouta Language Centre provides you with all the necessary means to achieve your objectives and to be able to express yourself in a daily basis, paving the way for a perfect learning process and a great cultural experience.

Darija uses a mixture of Modern Standard Arabic - the global language based on classical Arabic and the majority of Tunisian Arabic, Tamazight - the languages and dialects of the indigenous Amazigh people, and French. There is even a gradual increase in English being used in daily life in Tunis. So while we hope you find our Tunisian Arabic courses helpful, we also hope you find them to be an interesting coming together of different histories and cultures, which is really what Tunisia is all about.

We have developed our own materials for teaching Tunisian Arabic in a way that is useful, practical, and fun. Our teachers also utilise a variety of texts and media sources to teach Tunisian Arabic, and they are experienced in teaching non-native speakers. This includes students who do not have any background in French or Modern Standard Arabic. If you have some knowledge of either of these languages, this will be very helpful for you. And if you do not have any knowledge of these languages, that's okay! We have taught a wide variety of students in the past and always find a way to make it work and to help make your life easier in Tunis.

At the Taa Marbouta Language Centre, we teach Tunisian Arabic as evening classes or private classes. For working professionals and those with busy schedules in the day, evening classes are also available for the price of TND 999. This covers 30 hours of evening classes, usually twice per week, with each session lasting 90 minutes. These are available on an ad hoc basis, and can begin once a minimum of two students have signed up. These groups require students to be at approximately the same level of ability, and can be provided to students at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Classes vary in size between two and eight students and will ensure that you make steady progress while managing to fit classes around your already busy lives.

Private classes are available for TND 75 per hour, with a minimum of 20 hours required in order to process the booking. Schedules for private classes are flexible and simply dependent on the agreement of the student and the teacher. Private classes can take place online or in-person at our school in Carthage, Tunis. Please contact us via email, phone or on social media if you would like to discuss any of the above options further.
